The Sun Parody Apple’s iPhone Advert

December13

Just saw The Sun’s (Newspaper) advert on T.V. just there. It’s a blatant parody of Apple’s iPhone adverts that are currently running every where (see below) but its very, very cleverly executed and very effective. I loved it.

I’m making a book!

November17

Well, two actually. Firstly, I’m making a book of designers from various “isms” such as constructivism, futurism, dadaism, pictorial modernism etc.

An example of Cassandres (Pictorial Modernism) Work

An example of Cassandre's (Pictorial Modernism) Work

I’ve decided to make the front and back cover out of metal (much like the Futurist’s manifesto) but maybe mix it up with some other “ism” just to add some more interest.

I’ve to design the inside pages as well which will be equally important. It’ll be tough to keep a consistency between so many different styles of artistry.

Secondly, I’m making a children’s book. I’m much less certain about this at the moment as the designer book is due first and so it’s on my mind the most.

I’m interested in a tactile book and maybe something “make and do” but I really have so set myself a target age group before I can start designing and this will also limit what I can actually do.

Enough for now, I’ll post photos when it’s done.

First Update in a long time - Book binding

November13

Hey all! How are we keeping?

I’m using my new Android G1 phone to post this using an app called wpToGo which is pretty nifty.

College is mad buzy. I had a presentation yesterday that went well but I have like 6 big projects due in December. A Design magazine, a children’s book, a Flash game, a flash ‘yolkie’, a website and a 3d scene. Many a late night lies ahead!

I’ll leave you with a photo of a book that I bound and made myself in class today. It’s pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Talk to ya’ll again!

Edit//: I guess it’s not so good at uploading images. Oh well :/

Beautiful Design - New Wallpaper

July6

I’ve made a new wallpaper for myself in photoshop. Unfortunately it’s only currently available in 1280 x 800.

Feel free to download and use it yourself and as always, criticism and critique are welcomed.

Flock returns!

June29

Hey all.

Just a quick update. My Flock browser (which makes posting to the blog an absolute cinch) has miraculously started working again after crapping out on me while back.

So, as a result, expect some more updates than you have been getting.

I’ve got a few little projects on the go at the moment including hand painting, some Photoshop things along with some Illustrator so when they are done they will be posted. Just bare with me though, I’m working most days now so it’s rare enough that I get much time to myself.

Are you an Irish Twitterer?

May20

And do you lack an iPhone or one of those new fandangled phones that do everything? Fear not for this will interest you.. Enter: Ag Tweet.

This service is cool. It allows you to send a SMS or text message to an Irish number and that, in turn, updates your Twitter’s feed. If you have free texts then this won’t even cost you a dime.

It’s better than forking out for the English Number and it literally takes 20 seconds to set up (including putting the number in your phone)

And for those a bit weary, there is more info here and just to prove it actually works;

Have fun and happy Tweeting :)

I’m in love

Kinetic Typography. I really can’t get enough of this stuff. It really is wonderful to watch and it’s really is just so impressive what can be done with just text. Here is a collection of some of the best ones I’ve come across over the past 2 weeks or so.

And this guy combines the typography with real footage to really cool effect.

This dude is kind enough to explain how it’s done.

And here is another Tutorial over at AE Tuts aswell that I was made aware of thanks to Sean O’ Grady

Anyone have any better ones to show off or link to? I’m gonna try my hand at this over the summer. It can’t be that hard, riiiiiight? :P

I have a dream

May11

I have had a dream. A dream where I was friends with an SD card. Not just any SD card either. This SD card had personality. This SD card could talk to me. We laughed, we cried and I didn’t even know his capacity. And now I’ll never know either.

I used to carry him in an SD card reader so that there would be less chance of losing him in my pocket. He didn’t like this. He found it restrictive in that little snug compartment. He thought it fun to jump out of it and watch me come to a cold sweat everytime I pulled out the empty the card reader. He thought it hilarious. I didn’t.

I dropped the tissue in the toilet and pressed the button for flush. I watched as the tissue swirled and spiraled. I watched and SD, my friend, swirled and spiraled, swirled and spiraled and zoom around the U bend at a dizzying speed.

“Feck it” I said, “I’m not going in there.”

I don’t know where the dream came from or what it means but one thing is for sure; actually two things. One, it was one of the most interesting dreams I’ve ever had and two, SD was a stupid idiot.
