A short Flash animation on Information Overload that Padraig Birch, Patrick Clarke and myself produced for a college assignment.
The animation looks at information overload and the negative affects the constant bombardment of adverts has on us.
A short video I made as part of a college assignment. The assignment was titled “Creative Self” and the brief was very broad and open to anything and everything.
I chose to do a stop motion animation using lego. I think it works quite nicely and I’d be interested to hear what you guys think!
Red, a nice little short animation I came across just there. It’s like Little Red Riding Hood but not. Super cool though.

Chris-McGarry.com is one hell of a site. Created by Chris Coyier of CSS-Tricks

Chris is a singer/songwriter and one of the problem with lots of musician’s sites is that when you click a link on the page, the music track you were listening to stops. Chris Coyier has cleverly avoided this problem.
It’s all technically one page but content gets revealed and hidden depending on what you click. It uses Javascript which will probably surprise most people as it could well pass as a Flash site. This means the music keeps going and you get to enjoy cool little animations to boot!
Enjoy! (and click Gary’s face 3 times).
I was at a lecture from Mark Swaine the Creative Director of Squire today which proved to be an excellent and informative class.
One thing I came away with though was a feeling that I should really delve into AfterEffects a lot more. I’ve messed around with it but Mark says that he loves using Flash and AfterEffects and, although it might sound a bit stupid, that was a combination I can’t say I’ve ever thought of using before.
He showed us how they can be combined to make some truly dazzling websites and videos. Granted, these companies have big budgets and years of experience under their belts but this stuff is just awesome.
And the absolutely hilarious Viral Site for the Pomegranate Phone.

There is no reason not to give it more of a go seeing as there is more than enough tutorial sites to help get started such as;
If anyone has any relevant sites to share be sure to comment.
A Christmas Story told the Dubberland way.
Free Fight Like Apes Live album. Free is always good
Nice little photography project over at Boards.ie.
Amazingly unique Clock Design.

I’ve really been listening to a lot of The Beatles lately, largely because I got The Beatles: Rockband, and I particularly love “Here comes the Sun”.
Jason Mraz takes on Winter Wonderland. Well, might I add.
Alma is a fantastic 3D short film. Really fantastic.
Oxygen from Christopher Hendryx is another really groovy short 3D film.
That’s all for this week folks. Enjoy!

A good few actually!
I’ll start with Project Management. Basically, we have to take a toy, take it apart, use the buttons and what have you, and take the output of these buttons and turn them into inputs into the computer using Director. It’s fun and I’ll have a load of updates here when it actually gets going. As part of the assignment we also have to setup a dedicated blog to mark our progress so I’ll link to that when it’s up aswell.
Second is Multimedia Tools and Techniques which is basically Flash and Illustrator class. I have to create characters and make a 60 – 120 second animation on whatever theme I want. All has to be designed in Illustrator and then brought into Flash to actually animate it and make it all lovely and shiney. Again, updates when I actually start it all.
Thirdly is Digital Editing which is Final Cut class for everyone not in my course. Basically, I have to create a 30 second montage with the emphasis on the passing of time. I have to shoot the video myself and edit it as I see fit. I already have an idea for this one so it shouldn’t be too hard. *crosses fingers*
Fourthly and finally is Digital Editing again. This time it’s a 60 to 120 second video which is supposed to incorporate as many types of media as you can with original content gaining more marks than stuff nabbed of Youtube. It also has to be directly related to and have some elements of the Animation (stated above) in it. So, it has to be a prequel, equal or just be something involving it and it needs to include original recorded sound, video and animations. An example given in class was say, there is a shot of a T.V. onscreen. Our job would be to replace what is on the T.V. with video of our own. Again, I have an idea for this one aswell so it should be cool.
It’s all go but it’s all good at the same time. I’m actually really looking forward to the rest of the semester. There are a few more minor projects thrown into the mix so I’ll post them when they are all done and dusted.
Best as in not exactly the best animation in the world but one of the cleverest for sure. My lecturer showed it to the class today and he broke it down and explained how it was done. He also went on to say that it was far from a simple process but the actual execution isn’t the hardest in the world.
Still, I sure hope he’s not expecting this standard from us all! :O If anything else, it’s a good song.
It’s made by MONKEEHUB who also made the video for the JCB song by Nizlopi.
…. all my notes for college. Finally, after what, a month of being back? God I’m crap at this. But I’m gonna stick to it this time now that I have a folder for each subject. I’m gonna stick to it just like I stick with updating this blog almost daily. I’ve done a pretty good job with that so far so I’m gonna do amazingly well with the college notes.
Oh, I’ve got a flash animation due pretty soon which will be up when it’s ready. Also, that photo gallery that I mentioned somewhere below. It’s due on Monday so expect an upload of that.
