Posted by Sean Smyth on 06 Jul 2009 / 1 Comment

I’ve made a new wallpaper for myself in photoshop. Unfortunately it’s only currently available in 1280 x 800.

Feel free to download and use it yourself and as always, criticism and critique are welcomed.

Photography: The Early March Collection

Posted by Sean Smyth on 06 Mar 2009 / 3 Comments

Below is a collection of my favourite shots that I’ve taken and processed over the past week or so. Some of them are earlier than March but that would have just led to an unattractive title then, wouldn’t it?

Seeing as I’m taking more Photographs than ever before, I’ve decided that I’m going to have a dedicated Photography section on the site. It’s not going to be just a category like it is now. I’m thinking a way to display the images. There are a few WordPress plugins available to do such a job (eg) but I’ll explore other options and decide again.

Toodles!

Here is a shot I took at the weekend at an old farm house near to where I live. It’s in its completely raw state as I felt little need to edit it in Photoshop. Not even a crop or a straighten

New Assignments!

Posted by Sean Smyth on 20 Feb 2009 / 0 Comment

A good few actually!

I’ll start with Project Management. Basically, we have to take a toy, take it apart, use the buttons and what have you, and take the output of these buttons and turn them into inputs into the computer using Director. It’s fun and I’ll have a load of updates here when it actually gets going. As part of the assignment we also have to setup a dedicated blog to mark our progress so I’ll link to that when it’s up aswell.

Second is Multimedia Tools and Techniques which is basically Flash and Illustrator class. I have to create characters and make a 60 – 120 second animation on whatever theme I want. All has to be designed in Illustrator and then brought into Flash to actually animate it and make it all lovely and shiney. Again, updates when I actually start it all.

Thirdly is Digital Editing which is Final Cut class for everyone not in my course. Basically, I have to create a 30 second montage with the emphasis on the passing of time. I have to shoot the video myself and edit it as I see fit. I already have an idea for this one so it shouldn’t be too hard. *crosses fingers*

Fourthly and finally is Digital Editing again. This time it’s a 60 to 120 second video which is supposed to incorporate as many types of media as you can with original content gaining more marks than stuff nabbed of Youtube. It also has to be directly related to and have some elements of the Animation (stated above) in it. So, it has to be a prequel, equal or just be something involving it and it needs to include original recorded sound, video and animations. An example given in class was say, there is a shot of a T.V. onscreen. Our job would be to replace what is on the T.V. with  video of our own. Again, I have an idea for this one aswell so it should be cool.

It’s all go but it’s all good at the same time. I’m actually really looking forward to the rest of the semester. There are a few more minor projects thrown into the mix so I’ll post them when they are all done and dusted.

TakeTwo Productions Logo Design

Posted by Sean Smyth on 17 Feb 2009 / 1 Comment

Today I completed a project that isn’t due until Friday the 20th of February. This project was to design and create a Film Production Company Logo. On our first day of this semester, our lecturer made us all come up with our own Film Production Company name. Later, the names were shared and swapped throughout the class and, in essence, everyone became someone elses client.

I was chosen to design and conceptualise a logo for someone who’s Production Company was called “TakeTwo”. Firstly, I had to come up with an idea and this was achieved my quickly sketching some basic ideas with pencil and paper. After about 20 some jumped out at me as being pretty good and then I felt that I should draw them out in greater detail just to show them in a better light.

I showed these drawings to my client and she chose here favourite one which, coincidentally, was mine too. I then drew this up on Adobe Illustrator. I did some little tweaks that I thought would improve it even more at this stage.

It was at this stage that I added the film reel cut-outs to tie it in with the Film Production Company. I also made the “PRODUCTIONS” type a little smaller than “TAKE TWO” as there was no need for it to be as prominant.

Tada! All done. I’m pretty happy with it. :)

However, I’m not all done there. We then had to make a Compimentary Slip, Business card and Headed Paper. All of which, can be seen below.

Any comments are greatly appreciated. Creative Critisism is also welcomed. Thanks.

Brochure in Indesign

Posted by Sean Smyth on 13 Feb 2009 / 0 Comment

Last semester we were assigned to create a 4 page (A5) brochure using Indesign. The photos used had to be your own and marks were awarded for the general loveliness of it all. Mock ups were done in Photoshop but that goes without saying really.

Here it is anyway in all it’s loveliness.

This is what you could be getting.

It’s good when designers give a little back to the community. All this giving has be organised and put together over a Dzineblog. There are some nice wood textures and just some really nice stuff in general there.

Some Websites I’ve made

Posted by Sean Smyth on 06 Feb 2009 / 3 Comments

It’s a slow night. I’m bored and I’m half watching The Late Late Show (oh noes!). I’ve made a few web pages and sites over the past year or so just to practice and I find it somewhat fun to make ‘em and so I’ve decided to share them will you. Now, I’m well aware that they aren’t fantastic but sure feck it, why not?

DKIT Campus

This was the first website I ever made. It was an assignment in my first year in college and we were only taught to use tables for laying out so yeah, it’s kinda crummy. Link.

DKITv

DKITv ScreenShot

This was my second website ever and this was a final project for a Web Authoring class in first year of college. Again, we still hadn’t moved on to table-less layouts just yet. I’m actually quiet happy with how this turned out surprisingly although the nav bar could be better in that it currently has no alternate text. Anywho…. Link.

Sausage Batter

This one was just something I did after watching a PSD to HTML video on NETTUTS and was inspired to give it a whirl myself. CSS for layout this time but it’s a bit dodge and only displays properly in Firefox or Flock or some variation of Mozilla‘s Firefox. Link.

Orange Jooce

I made this one after watching the second video on NETTUTS. Again, it only displays properly in Firefox or a variation thereof. I must sort out my CSS skills so other Browsers don’t get confused…. Link.

One Ear – Poster of Awesomeness

Posted by Sean Smyth on 31 Oct 2008 / 5 Comments

Yeah…. sure…. “awesomeness” is a real word. I swear!

Anywho, my friend and coincidentally, my housemate is a member of a band called “OneEar” (listen to “Monster” on their bebo or “She Drives Me Wild”), who are were in need of a poster to stick around the place to promote their gigs.

I happily complied and with the promise of 2 bars of chocolate as payment, I was well happy with my first paid job.

The resulting design is below and I’m pretty happy with it. Any comments?

The poster has been updated to the final version. The old one is still available HERE if you want to compare.
